Happy Monday and Earth Week! This week I am excited to say I will be posting all activities about this wonderful planet we call, Earth.
With around 1,900 active volcanoes on earth, I figured Volcanoes was a good place to start!
This activity can get messy, so outside might be best, but by altering the amount of vinegar to baking soda, even those who are in an apartment can do it.
The quantities I have used, was so it didnt make a huge mess and was easily contained in a dish. To make a bigger volcano, simple use less vinegar and more baking soda.
What you need for this activity is:
Dish Soap White Vinegar Baking Soda
Empty bottle
(I made the bottle look like a volcano by using a brown paper bag, but this is not necessary)
This is so easy!
In the bottle put:
1 Tbsp Dish Soap 10 Tbsp Vinegar Food coloring
*As mentioned above, if you want a bigger explosion, place less vinegar. You of course can do this with bigger bottles, and just adjust quantities accordingly.
Then in a mixing jug mix: 1/4 cup Baking Soda 1/2 Cup water.
You are now ready!
Slowly pour the baking soda mixture into your bottle and watch the volcano erupt!

Another fun fact is:
There are over 80 volcanoes in the sea!
Happy Volcano Making!
